Breakaway – Intermediates & Teens

July Breakaway is now LIVE and looks amazing!!! We are running two programmes from 15th – 17th July:
-Intermediates – FULL!!!! Email: rego@yat.org.nz to be on the waiting list
-Teenagers

There is no cost to attend Breakaway, although you must bring your own lunch and any spending money for trips such as Hanmer Springs. All programs start and finish at the Youth Alive Trust offices, there are only 36 places per programme and you must book for and attend all 3 days. All registrations must be done online:

June 2019 Update…

Dear YAT Family,
We do hope you and yours are doing well and keeping warm. It’s been a busy & fun term, and we have a busy time coming up too! Have you read our Latest Newsletter?? (it takes 3 minutes with a hot drink!) Here’s a few updates:

1. July Holiday Programmes – Week 1
Bookings are now LIVE for Years 1 – 4’s & 5 – 9’s Holiday Programme from 8 – 12 July. All bookings done online at AimyPlus. MSD subsidies available. Full programmes on our website. There is no programme in Week 2.

2. Breakaway – Week 2
Our FREE intermediates and teens programme will be running in Week 2 of the school holidays. The Programme and sign-up will be live in the next few days on Aimyplus with more info on our website. Limited spaces so get in quick!

3. Babysitting Training – Thursday 11th July
Whether you’re already babysitting the neighbours kids or your younger siblings or want some credibility when looking for a babysitting job – this day is for you! Course covers expectations of a babysitter, the child and family, safety, play and basic first aid by a trained Plunket facilitator. Costs $30. Hosted by Youth Alive Trust in New Brighton. Register now via our website or visit the facebook event.

4. Kidsfest – Have a Go Music or DJ Lessons
Our Amplify School of Music is running “Have-a-Go Lessons” from 16th – 19th July at various times between 9am – 5pm. You can choose your times and choice of Instruments from the Kidsfest enrolments page. Prices are $26 for TWO half-hour Instrument Lessons, or $26 for ONE 1hr DJ Lesson. Additional lessons can be added from the enrolments page.

5. FREE Counselling for Young People
There are a number of places you can get FREE Counselling for young people, such as 298 Youth Health in the city, and St John of God Hauora Trust on Pages Road who counsel 10 – 25 year olds on issues such as anxiety, depression, alcohol, drugs and eating disorders. Also Mike King’s Gumboot Friday Funding is available temporarily for counselling, and we can recommend some great local counsellors, including some of our own, you could use that funding for. GPs can also make referrals. Spread the word and lets get our young people help when they need it…

6. Clubs – spaces available Wednesday afternoons
All clubs are running well with good numbers. There are spaces in our School Years 3 – 6 Basketball Coaching sessions on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:30pm, and also our Girls only Craft Club on Wednesdays from 3:30pm – 5pm for School Years 5 – 8. If you want to give either club a try before the end of term end – just turn up, or sign up online (if club numbers become too low, we may have to scrap them). New dance & singing club, RISE, has no spaces for this term, but spaces will be opening at the beginning of Term 3 for anyone in Years 5 – 8 who may want to join.

7. YAT Clothing

YAT has launched some clothing designs, so if anyone wants any YAT branded clothing, they can provide their own piece of clothing and complete an order form at reception. Click here for possible designs.

Babysitting Training – NEW DATE

Thomson Park Official Re-Opening

The Thomson Park upgrade project is officially opening on Wednesday 5th June from 3.15-4.30pm with speeches, freebies and celebrity Basketballers! The revamp includes a full sized basketball court to FIBA standards, additional picnic tables/sitting, a new grassed picnic area and sealed pathways linking the playing fields to the skate bowl and playground and 18 sealed carpark spaces (wet weather postponement is Thursday 6th June – same times).

The Canterbury Rams and Wildcats will be in attendance showing some tips, tricks and skills to the kids, as well as a shooting comp and a friendly game. Come along from 3.15pm for the FREE sausage sizzle, speeches at 3.30pm and plenty of spot prizes and fun through until 4.30pm.

The upgrade has been funded by the Christchurch City Council, with strong support from the Burwood Coastal Community Board and other local groups and users, including Youth Alive Trust, Eastern Community Sport and Recreation Inc and the North Beach Residents Association.

KIDSFEST 2019
Free Movie tickets & Free Peppa Pig show!!

There will be two sessions of the interactive Peppa Pig show on Sunday 21 July – one at 11am and one at 1pm, with pre-show entertainment, including food trucks, face-painting, art workshops and more, on offer in Victoria Square from 10am. The tickets will be available online from the KidsFest website from 9am on Tuesday 4 June.

This year KidsFest includes more than 260 events across Christchurch, Waimakariri and Selwyn. The KidsFest fun will begin on Saturday 6 July with KidsFest at the Movies – a free day of movies at the Hoyts EntX cinema complex in Christchurch’s city centre. The whole complex has been hired out for the day and three of the latest children’s movies – Toy Story 4, Secret Life of Pets 2, and Detective Pikachu – will be shown over three sessions.

Our very own Amplify School of Music is running ‘have a go’ instrument lessons too!

Other not-to-be-missed KidsFest events include:
The Big Chill where kids will be able to skate, scoot, rollerblade, bounce, jump on a crazy bike, shoot some hoops, play ball, get their face painted, and enjoy a free Hellers sausage sizzle with family and friends in the heart of Linwood. The Christchurch Brick Show at Horncastle Arena where kids can have a go with robotics, mechanics, Lego energy generators and more.

The KidsFest Pool Parties, which are being held at Pioneer, Taiora QEII, Jellie Park and Graham Condon pools and provide kids with a chance to have fun on inflatables, dance in the water and play some pool games. Tickets for all KidsFest events will be available on the KidsFest website from 9am, Tuesday 4 June. KidsFest brochures will be delivered to Christchurch primary schools at the end of this week. They will also be available at local libraries and service centres.

Strike Day – 29th May 2019

Youth Alive Trust are running a fun OSCAR Activity Day for any children in Years 1 – 9 while schools are expected to be on Strike. We’re heading to Orana Park for the day (alternative activities if wet weather) and costs $35 each (8:30am – 3:30pm), plus extension to 6:00pm available if needed for an extra $12. Interest Clubs – Term 2 Spaces

There are still spaces this term for some of our weekly interest clubs. Kitchen Klub is every Monday from 3:30 – 5pm for school years 5-8, Girls Craft Club is Wednesdays 3:30pm – 5pm for school years 5 – 8, Basketball Coaching is Wednesdays 3:30pm – 4:30pm for school years 3 – 6 and RISE our singing and dancing group is Mondays 6pm – 7:30pm for school years 5 – 8.
